Even in this #MeToo and #TimesUp era, it can be hard to stand out from the crowd, when it comes to explaining the impact of sexual assault. It is a centuries-old problem at hand, one of conveying what it truly means to survive rape and how these crimes affect victims. Sadly, effects on victims linger as part of everyday existence and lifelong memories.
Lauren James (LJ) took the task to hand, that of using experimental film to convey the emotions, experiences and real horror of rape in this provocative short. Sounds, imagery, flashes, static and tone collide in a realistic depiction of a typical victim's experience. The viewer gets a real sense of how victims feel, from this story formed around interwoven explanations provided by actual survivors.
